Notes
The Corruption Within is a psychological thriller point and click adventure with a retro art style, set in a Victorian mansion. The music was really fun and challenging to write. Though I do realize that the harpsichord was definitely out of fashion by the Victorian era, I used the instrument prominently in the main theme, and in most of the indoor background tracks, to convey the idea of an old, creepy mansion. I was particularly happy with the Dies Irae for a climactic scene near the end of the game where the protagonist finally discovers what’s been going on. In addition, I enjoyed writing a Nocturne in the style of Chopin for piano and harp, and a Kyrie in the style of Mozart, which seemed like the type of piece that a wealthy family might have owned on an early gramophone record in the late Victorian era.
The album is available for listening or purchase on Bandcamp. I wrote over 30 minutes of music for the game, and John Ravenov kindly contributed an additional track for an underwater scene.
